Yoga For Warriors

This class is taught by:

Emmalyn Gaertner

Emmalyn wants to live in a world where health is about balance, we find happiness in the little things, our food is cooked with love, and yoga is accessible to everyone. Emmalyn teaches a wide range of classes- from a gentle, beginner class to a rigorous, energetic Prana Flow practice to a clam, soothing restorative class. Emmalyn has completed a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Maria Garre in Shiva Rea’s Prana Flow Affiliate Program in 2012, and a 200 Hour Hatha Flow Yoga Teacher Training with Libby Cox from Yoga Yoga in 2014. She is always working on her own practice and deepening her study to enhance her student's experience on the mat.

In Emmalyn’s classes you can expect to find comfort in your body and leave class feeling accomplished and relaxed. She helps you take incremental steps towards mastering a challenging pose and gives detailed alignment cues to protect your body from injury. During Emmalyn's first teacher training she was introduced to Ayurveda, the medical science of yoga, and is always deepening her knowledge of the tradition. Emmalyn uses Ayurvedic practices in her own life, integrates the principles into her classes, and loves sharing the helpful tips with her students. Emmalyn is in the process of deepening her understanding of Ayurveda and training to be a Yoga Health Coach. When Emmalyn isn’t on her mat she enjoys hiking with her dog Ollie, cooking with her husband, and always loves a hug!

Erika Liem Palidar

Erika began teaching in 2007. She teaches us to breathe, sweat, and move with inner grace;  to build strength and power in our core, and to radiate it all out. She is a RYT 200 and was trained by Faith Hunter in Washington, DC. Erika is also a pilates instructor with certifications from PHI Pilates and Balanced Body University, and is a trained Barre teacher. Erika is also an Army wife and a writer. In September 2011, she was published in Yoga Journal. While she was pregnant with her daughter Audrey, Erika appeared in a Yoga Vibes online prenatal yoga video demonstrating how to modify poses during pregnancy. Following Audrey’s birth, Erika trained at Tranquil Space Yoga in Washington, DC to teach baby-and-me and toddler yoga. Erika also taught yoga to the Warrior Transition Unit in Schweinfurt, Germany, her class received rave reviews amongst soldiers and also in the Bavarian Times. A self-described “recovering attorney,” Erika had a 10-year career in litigation, holds a law degree from American University, in Washington, DC, and has a BA from Brown University, in Providence, RI.

Alison Krattiger

Alison first experienced yoga in college and has practiced since then, but she really fell in love with it when her family relocated to Colorado Springs a few years ago. Originally from Oklahoma City, Alison has had the opportunity to live all over the U.S. and parts of Europe. She is the mother of two young daughters, an Army spouse, and a part-time Speech-Language Pathologist. Alison is eager to learn as much as she can about the 8 Limbs of Yoga and how to fully practice yoga on and off the mat. She initially completed Pranava Yoga Center’s 200 RYT Yoga Teacher Training Program to deepen her own practice, but somewhere along the away, she realized how much she loved sharing yoga with others. Alison teaches creative, thoughtful Vinyasa-style classes with a focus on alignment. She feels that she has received a wonderful gift when she attends a great yoga class and aspires to give that same gift to each one of her students.

Amanda Montoya

Amanda took her first yoga class for college PE credit and immediately fell in love. She started a regular practice in 2010 and in 2014 completed a 200-HR teaching training program at Practice Yoga in Austin, Texas. Her only goal was to deepen her own personal practice but she soon found herself sharing her passion for yoga with others as a teacher.
Yin yoga is a great influence on Amanda's style and helped her through a journey with Thyroid Cancer. She loves begin able to share this quiet, meditative style with students who can find it useful in dealing with their own lives.
Amanda's goal in all classes she leads is to combine fun and challenging sequences with moving meditation to create physical and mental flexibility and strength.

Betty Secrest

Betty is a wife, mother and grandmother with a full time job. She is an animal lover and has given a home to numerous wayward furry souls. Betty thought life was complete with her devotion to her family, grandchildren and grand-puppies until she was introduced to Yoga and all the benefits it entailed. She learned that Yoga was so much more than just another form of exercise for it encompasses our physical, spiritual and emotional being. This awareness brought about a self- searching quest to find her inner peace and a desire to share her passion with others which soon led her to obtaining her 200 hr Yoga Instructor’s Certification with Yama Yoga in Canton, Texas. Betty has found that even in this stressful world, a calming peacefulness can be obtained through Yoga and meditation and she stands ready to share this beautiful practice with you.

Erica Pealer

At her first job ever, an ice cream stand in her hometown of Lake Placid, New York, Erica found lasting joy in the direct connection between working and making people happy (how can you be sad when someone is handing you ice cream covered in sprinkles?). Since then she has worked as an editor, a paralegal and a grant writer for several nonprofits, but she feels most at home here on the mat. A 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and an Army spouse, Erica’s yoga practice has spanned more than a decade across seven states. Growing up in the heart of the Adirondack Park taught Erica to love the beauty of nature while dance, music and theater taught her the joy of physical expression. Her rigorous schooling has taught her the rewards of contemplative academic study; she holds a BA in English from Smith College and is currently completing her MBA. Yoga weaves all of these elements together for her, creating an everlasting, enriching personal practice both on and off the mat! Erica believes that every individual has something unique to offer and finds just as much joy in learning from her students as she does in teaching them.

Heidi Duster

Heidi Duster has been immersed in the study, practice and teachings of yoga since 2008. She discovered that the practice of yoga extends far beyond the confined area of the mat.
She values working with people to approach life with kindness and compassion. Through emphasis on the smooth, steady breath she guides her students on the path of self-reflection and acceptance.
Heidi has completed the 500 hours Yoga Therapist Training through YogaYoga in Austin, Texas. Besides her weekly group classes she now emphasizes on individual work to optimize form and function for people with injuries or medical conditions. Join her and experience the positive impact of a meditative practice. Heidi hopes you step off the mat with profound openness and clarity to carry into your daily life.
A free yoga class designed specifically for service members and veterans. The students will learn skills proven to help connect to the present-leaving anxiety behind while learning to feel safe and in control. By lowering hyper-vigilance and reactions to noise and stress, veterans can learn to sleep better and have more control over their emotions. Open to veterans, active duty service members, and their families.
